Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals female characters in popular media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critic. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website that explores representations of women in popular culture narratives. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she has also been working to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people on the internet. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given speech at the TEDxWomen Festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at university. This ambitious woman planned to create an online program that would examine the gender roles in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. She was not deterred from the attack, and the fact is that it only bolstered her determination to be an expert on media and feminism. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media critic. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture depictions of women.
